Meet our Trolley Drivers
Marie grew up in the mid-coast section of Maine and has been living in the Portland area since 1980 when she moved to the area for a job. The coming season will be Marie’s 10th as a guide and trolley driver and she loves showing this beautiful area we live in to people from across the globe. When she’s not being a tour guide, she’s spending time with family and friends, cross stitching, traveling or riding her motorcycle.
Steve has been a tour guide and trolley jockey for Portland Discovery for over 10 years. Also born and raised in Maine, he just completed his 40th year as a school teacher in South Portland, where he and his wife raised their 3 children. When he’s not teaching in the classroom or on the trolley, he’s traveling, hiking or reading. He likes being with Portland Discovery because of the people he works with and the people he meets on tour.
Scott was born and raised in Greater Portland and has been a trolley driver and guide with Portland Discovery for 8 years. He’s a retired firefighter, a Maine history buff, and loves being a grandfather. When he’s not making people laugh, he can be found baking, building something in the backyard, or metal detecting.
Originally from Medford, Massachusetts, JJ has been a tour guide in Boston & Cambridge, Massachusetts as well as several areas of southern Maine. He was with Portland Discovery in its early years, left to help Shipyard Brewery through it’s many years of growth but eventually missed the staff and the fun of being a tour guide. He likes showing guests parts of Portland they might not have otherwise found and maybe making them laugh along the way. When he’s not showing people around, he’s spending time with his son Nick, who you will also find on Long Wharf selling tickets.
Born in Portland and raised in South Portland, Bob is an army veteran, a member of the trucking industry for 41 years, and can’t seem to stay retired. His first retirement lead him to driving a school bus and his second retirement lead him to us. He’s going on his second season with Portland Discovery and loves meeting people from all corners of the world and showing them our beautiful city and architecture. Any spare time is spent reading, cooking, and with his wife and their many great-grandchildren.
Steve was born in Berwick, Maine and began work as a mill worker along with many others in his community. Attending college in nearby Gorham, Maine allowed him to begin exploring Portland and found the employment options and the city’s natural beauty hard to resist. After serving 3 years in the US Army, Steve returned to the area and was able to turn his love of history into teaching 8th grade students social studies in South Portland. It was a natural transition into showing people around Portland on our trolleys and sharing his love of the area’s history. Outside of work, Steve occasionally partakes in Civil War reenactments and enjoys camping, hunting and fishing.
